Privacy policy.

Last updated: July 27, 2025

Welcome to End of a Species, where we document humanity’s slow-motion extinction with reason, sarcasm, and the occasional meme. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, what we do with it, and what we’d rather avoid entirely.

What We Collect (and Why)

We collect the bare minimum to keep things running smoothly and understand what content resonates. That includes:

  • IP address (anonymized for analytics)
  • Browser and device info
  • Page visits and session duration
  • Referring pages

This helps us analyze traffic patterns and prevent spam or abuse. No creepy tracking, no reselling your info to a supplement company in Ohio.

Cookies and Tracking

Yes, we use cookies. They're small text files that help us:

  • Remember your preferences
  • Measure site performance
  • Manage the cookie banner itself

You can accept or reject them using the banner at the bottom of the page. If you change your mind, clear your browser cookies or revisit the banner from the footer if available.

Embedded Media and Third Parties

Sometimes we embed content from platforms like TikTok, Twitch, and YouTube. These platforms may track interactions or set cookies when you engage with their media.

We don’t control what they do. Their policies apply when you click play. If that’s a problem, don’t interact with embedded content.

Comments via Disqus

Our comments section is powered by Disqus, a third-party tool. When you post a comment, you're sharing data directly with them, not us.

Their data practices are outlined in the Disqus Privacy Policy. Read it, or don’t. Just know we’re not responsible for what they collect.

Mailing List

If you subscribe to our mailing list, we’ll store your email address. We only use it to send updates about End of a Species content. No third-party marketing. No affiliate garbage.

Every email includes an unsubscribe link. Use it whenever.

Data Security

Our site runs on Squarespace, which uses industry-standard encryption and access controls. We don’t store sensitive personal data.

If something goes wrong and it affects user data, we’ll let you know through email or a notice on the site. We won’t sweep it under the rug.

Your Rights

If you live in the EU, California, or anywhere else with data laws that actually mean something, you may have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Request deletion or correction
  • Object to certain types of processing
  • Export your data

To request anything, contact us at xnihilo@endofaspecies.com.

Children

This site is not for children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect data from kids, and if we find out we did, we’ll delete it. Simple.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, we’ll reflect it on this page. If the changes are meaningful, we’ll say so.
